COMMUNICATION INTERN


 

Health Strat is a medical and health systems technical support institution seeking a Communication Intern. The intern shall be energetic and creative currently studying and seeking internship or recently graduated university student. The intern should be available in Nairobi for the 3-month internship program and able to commit 40-hours per week. This internship avails an opportunity to learn and gain knowledge in executing an organizational communication plan.

 

 Specific Tasks will include but are not limited to:

 

1.      Develop general communication publication as directed

2.      Designing advocacy and marketing material

3.      Network and engage on communication activities with various stakeholders

4.      Maintain a mailing lists of stakeholders as necessary

5.      Produce social media messaging and infographics

6.      Manage and create website content

 

Minimum Requirements:

1.      Must be studying towards or just recently graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Communication

2.      Must be articulate, professional and have a good command of both written and spoken English

3.      Proficient in carrying out internet research and have excellent social medial and digital communication expertise

4.      Proficient in photography and video production

5.      Should have good basic organizational, prioritizing and time management skills

6.      Should be extremely computer literate with competence in MS Office

7.      Should have a mature demeanor with a keen eye to detail

HEALTH SYSTEMS IMPROVEMENT ADVISOR (HSIA) 


 

 Spark Health was launched in 2011 through a grant from Johnson & Johnson (J&J) to a team at the University of Cape Town, Graduate School of Business (UCT GSB) to explore how leadership and management development principles and practices could be used to accelerate the elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV (“eMTCT”) in Africa.  In collaboration with the National AIDS and STI Control Program (NASCOP) - Kenya Ministry of Health, Spark Health seeks a highly capable leader to work closely with the relevant structures/stakeholders within key priority counties to strengthen the capabilities of health management teams in those Counties to achieve sustainable outcomes.

Expected knowledge, skills and abilities

Mandatory

§  Strong team mentorship and coaching skills, including ability to help teams identify and solve problems through relevant and iterative questioning, leading to self-discovery of solutions.

§  Strong data-based management and analytical skills, including the use of data to drive decision-making and system improvement.

§  Excellent group process and facilitation skills, including presentation, meeting planning and time management. 

§  Ability to establish and maintain effective and productive working relationships and partnerships with stakeholders at all levels of authority.

§  Proven conflict management skills, specifically the identification of root causes of conflicts and the ability to facilitate the resolution of conflicts in an objective manner in order to ensure a productive work environment and achievement of goals.

§  Relevant applied experience in leading and managing organizational change in a complex environment.

§  Mission driven leadership to achieving desired results, making use of the mission to align efforts and maintain focus on the desired outcome. 

§  Knowledge of the eMTCT landscape and public health systems

 

Essential

§  Deep project management skills: ability to work under pressure, respond to deadlines, prioritize competing deliverables, and be flexible and productive while working independently

§  Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex concepts with clarity, tact and diplomacy.

§  Proficient computer skills, including essential knowledge of common PC applications such as Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

§  An intricate understanding of the African public health care landscape

§  Passion for improving the public health sector.

 

Roles and responsibilities

§  Mentoring MoH teams on data-based management practices

§  Building relationships with teams during training and implementation phases

§  Assisting teams to develop implementation plans

§  Report writing (end-of-training & quarterly review reports)

§  Facilitation of knowledge sharing among MoH teams between review meetings

§  Analysis of team reports and synthesising the data to determine progress against plans

§  Problem solving with MoH teams to suggest improvements

§  Providing relevant content for the eCampus community of practice platform

§  Participating on, and coordinating the ‘chat room’ activities of the eCampus

§  Synthesising the key lessons from each ‘chat room’ session for input into programs and Spark Health strategy

§  Supporting continuous improvement of MoH teams by utilising outputs/key lessons from eCampus ‘chat room’ sessions

§  Analysis of program participants surveys and generating key insights to inform program improvement

 

Qualifications

§  Must be a Kenyan Citizen

§  Bachelor’s degree in Medicine, Nursing, Social Sciences or related field with a Master’s degree in Public health, Medicine or related field

§  Candidates with over 10 years relevant extensive experience in health systems strengthening, coupled with a Higher National Diploma in Nursing or Social Sciences, will be considered

§  Extensive skills in HIV program (especially PMTCT) and Reproductive health 

§  Fluency in English and Kiswahili (speaking, reading and writing)

§  Solid skills in Excel, Word and PowerPoint

§  Deep understanding of devolved systems of governance

§  Knowledge of project management will be an added advantage
